SANTA CLARA, Calif. – It appears Quinton Patton is ready to play. But will there be room for the promising rookie receiver?

PattonPatton’s name did not appear on the San Francisco 49ers’ injury report Wednesday. That means he is practicing without any health hindrances. He has not played since breaking his foot in Week 4, and has been practicing on a limited basis in recent weeks.

What does Patton's health mean for 49ers?

The 49ers like Patton’s future. However, with Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham back from injuries, they may not have room for him on the 46-player game-day roster. In Crabtree’s return Sunday against St. Louis, the fourth and final active receiver was Kassim Osgood. But Osgood is primarily a special-teamer, so it is doubtful the 49ers would inactivate him. They did that last month against Carolina and the special-teams unit suffered without him.

The only other way Patton could be active is if the 49ers take from another position.

Meanwhile, cornerback Tarell Brown practiced on a limited basis for the first time since suffering a rib injury at New Orleans. He will likely continue to back up Tramaine Brock at right cornerback and play as a nickel cornerback.

Backup tight end Garrett Celek practiced fully after missing the past three games with a hamstring injury. Fellow tight end Vance McDonald sat out Wednesday with an ankle injury that he played through on Sunday.
